National Neighbour Day is Australia's annual celebration of community, bringing together the people next door, across the street or on the next farm for a beer, a barbie or just a cuppa.
Held on the last Sunday in March every year, it's the perfect day to say thanks for being a great neighbour and for being there when I needed you most.
Proudly promoting National Neighbour Day, Lend Lease Springfield Lakes want to help you to celebrate this day and are offering a financial contribution in the form of an Springfield Lakes IGA voucher of up to $200 towards your planned Neighbour Day activities. The aim of the voucher is to cover the cost of food (depending on the size of the event) for your neighbourhood get together.
A maximum funding pool of $2000 is available. The aim of Neighbour Day is to:-
- Strengthen communities and build better relationships with the people who live around us.
- Create safer, healthier and more vibrant suburbs and towns.
- Promote tolerance, respect and understanding.
- Break down community barriers.
- Protect the elderly, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged.
How do you apply?
Applications are available for members of Springfield Lakes online, so if you're not already a member simply register here.
The application form is available by clicking here.
Applications for funding close 15 March 2012.
Tips to help you celebrate Neighbour Day - Sunday 25 March 2012
Pick a time and place
Whether is morning tea or bbq with the neighbours in your block, or a village bbq and games in your local park, decide what is manageable. Pick a communal area such as front lawn or village park rather than inside someone’s house. This will be less intimidating for the residents who don’t know many people and encourage more people to join in.
Work as a group
Get some neighbours involved in the planning and work out what needs to be done – invitations, nametags, balloons, food, bbq supply, and cleaning up. Get the children involved – they love a party.
Invite your neighbours
You can download the Neighbour Day poster on to A4 and A3 from the Neighbour Day website (www.neighbourday.org) and use as invites and flyers. Just add the time, place and contact details. Let people know that certain supplies for the event are covered (through Lend Lease) and if they need to bring chairs or a plate etc. Decide on the best way to invite your neighbours. Knocking on the door and handing them an invitation is a nice personal touch, but you could pop it in the letterbox or come back later if they are not home.
Say g’day and get to know your neighbours
Make sure you have a few people to make introductions and give out name tags. Shy people will be grateful! Encourage people to leave their mobile number with older residents so they have someone to contact in an emergency.
